There are several major annual events such as First Night, which occurs on New Year's Eve, the Boston Early Music Festival (a music festival held every two years for all people interested in historical music performance), the annual Boston Arts Festival at Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park (an annual event designed to showcase the visual and performing arts), and Italian summer feasts in the North End honoring Catholic saints. The city is the site of several events during the Fourth of July period. They include the week-long Harborfest festivities and a Boston Pops concert accompanied by fireworks on the banks of the Charles River.

First Night is a North American artistic and cultural celebration on New Year's Eve, taking place from afternoon until midnight. Since it happens on New Year's Eve, First Night celebrations are actually held on the last night of the old year; why not 'ring' in the new year by placing a sparkling engagement ring onto your sweetheart's hand? First Night celebrates a community's local culture, often featuring music, dance, comedy, art, fireworks and, in some cities, ice sculptures and parades. The first First Night was in Boston on December 31, 1975. It was organized by a small group of artists who sought an alternative way of celebrating New Year's Eve, where Boston’s young, innovative artists and musicians could perform on both indoor and outdoor stages. Soon other surrounding communities started their own First Night celebrations. By the 1990s, the First Night Boston event was attracting works by over a thousand artists. In 2006 more than a million visitors attended First Night events. Despite all the available entertainment, wedding rings from Knox Jewelers and your expression of love and devotion will be the highlight of the night for your special someone.

A daytime venue to consider is the Arnold Arboretum. This is a Harvard University-owned arboretum, founded in 1872 and designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. This stunning space is large and inviting and there will be many picture taking opportunities to celebrate your moment of bliss after your darling accepts your proposal with a stunning diamond engagement ring from Knox Jewelers. The living collections include 14,980 individual plants so no matter what your favorite plants and flowers are you're sure to find the perfect spot. There is a special event to also consider: the second Sunday in May every year is "Lilac Sunday". This is the only day of the year that picnicking is allowed and you can surround yourselves in the sweet scent of lilac and beautiful colors while cuddling on a blanket with a picnic of treats. Then, when the moment is right, ask your loved one to accept your proposal; you'll be exchanging wedding bands in no time!

If you're looking for an outdoor locale that offers a little more freedom to picnic perhaps you'll consider the Boston Public Gardens. This is the nation's first public botanical garden, it was laid out in the French Second Empire style in the 1860s. the Public Garden contains a lake and a large series of formal plantings that are maintained by the city and others and vary from season to season. During the warmer seasons, the 4 acre pond is usually the home of one or more swansswans and is always the site of the Swan BoatsSwan Boats, a famous Boston tourist attraction, which began operating in 1877. For a small fee, tourists can sit on a boat ornamented with a white swan at the rear. The boat is then pedaled around the lake by a tour guide sitting within the swan. What romance you'll create when you pull out an engagement ring and ask your darling to be your mate for life, just like the swans! Perhaps you'll even return here later on wearing diamond jewelery and ready to exchange wedding bands along with your vows.

Perhaps a seaside view is more what you had in mind? Consider a tour of the Boston Light: The nation's second oldest standing lighthouse, Boston Light was built on the site of the first lighthouse in what is now the United States. It is the only lighthouse permanently staffed by the United States Coast Guard. located on Little Brewster Island in outer Boston Harbor. The memory of you presenting diamond jewelry will be the brightest thing that your darling sees as you share a vow of love together.

Looking for a different kind of historical atmosphere? The Freedom Trail is a red (mostly brick) path through downtown Boston that leads to 16 significant historic sites. It is a 2.5-mile walk from Boston Common to USS Constitution in Charlestown. Simple ground markers explaining events, graveyards, notable churches and other buildings, and a historic naval frigate are stops along the way. Contained within this walk are the Boston Naval Shipyard and the USS Constitution: The world's oldest floating commissioned naval vessel. Launched in 1797, she saw action in the Quasi-War and the War of 1812. She later became a training ship, and presently serves as a museum ship. She last sailed under her own power in August, 2012, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of her victory over Guerriere. It must be a good omen to get engaged on such a long lasting vessel! Exchanging wedding bands from Knox Jewelers will mean that your rings and your life together will have the same endurance as the USS Constitution.

Regardless of the location you choose to create this special memory, Knox Jewelers will provide high, heirloom quality pieces that are carefully hand-crafted to be a work of art that your loved one can wear forever.
